Fuel crisis threatens soybean production in Bolivia
In Ukraine, UkrAgroConsult reported that soybean producers in Bolivia are warning of growing risks to the harvest as an acute diesel shortage disrupts field operations. According to the National Association of Oilseed and Wheat Producers (Anapo), the fuel shortage has become one of the main factors limiting the country’s agricultural sector.
Anapo General Manager Jaime Hernández said farmers have no certainty that diesel fuel will be supplied in sufficient volumes and on time. This is creating difficulties for both harvesting and planting operations, despite the significant investments producers have already made in growing their crops.
In the Santa Cruz department, Bolivia’s main agricultural region, about 3 million liters of diesel are needed every day to harvest soybeans from 950,000 hectares and plant another 400,000 hectares. Fuel shortages are slowing fieldwork and increasing the risk of crop losses, according to the report.
Soybeans remain one of Bolivia’s key export commodities. According to the National Institute of Statistics, the country exported soybeans and soybean products worth more than $1 billion in 2025, making stable production essential for the national economy, it added.
