Flex-fuel vehicles remain Brazilian favorite with little likely to change for now
In Brazil, Fastmarkets reports data from Brazil’s National Registry of Motor Vehicles (Renavam) shows that consumers continue to prefer flex-fuel ethanol cars over electrical vehicles with sales of FFVs reaching 1.63 million in 2022, slightly higher than the year prior but a whopping 84% market share. Only 8,440 electric vehicles were sold in Brazil last year, accounting for just 0.4% market share. FFVs remain a much cheaper option in the Brazilian market so are likely to continue to dominate unless there are significant changes to policy and price in favor of EVs.
