Exolum acquires minority stake in SeaSeaS Amsterdam CO2 export terminal

August 10, 2026 |

In the Netherlands, Exolum has completed the acquisition of a minority stake in SeaSeaS Amsterdam, a project developing a multimodal CO₂ export terminal at the Port of Amsterdam. The transaction will help accelerate the development of infrastructure designed to connect industrial emitters in the Amsterdam region and other parts of the Netherlands and Germany with permanent geological storage sites beneath the North Sea seabed.

SeaSeaS Amsterdam aims to become Western Europe’s first open-access CO₂ export terminal. It will be able to handle CO₂ from both biogenic and non-biogenic sources. It is being designed to handle up to 3.5 million tonnes per year and receive CO₂ by vessel, rail, road or pipeline. From Amsterdam, the CO₂ will be transported by sea to permanent storage sites across the North Sea.This multimodal model will give companies of different sizes access to the carbon capture and storage value chain, including those without a direct pipeline connection. The terminal is expected to become operational in 2030.
