European Commission opens consultation on new EU hydrogen strategy

October 29, 2026 |

In the UK, Fuel Cells Works reported that the European Commission has opened a call for evidence and targeted stakeholder consultation to shape its forthcoming renewed hydrogen strategy. The four-week call for evidence and targeted stakeholder consultation run until November 23.

The Commission’s last hydrogen strategy dates from 2020. The new initiative responds in part to a recommendation from the European Court of Auditors to update that strategy and ensure the availability of decarbonisation solutions for industrial processes where direct electrification is not feasible or cost-effective, according to the report.

The new strategy aims to set a clear trajectory for renewable and low-carbon hydrogen deployment to 2030 and beyond, with actions covering industrial competitiveness, infrastructure and trade, skills, research and innovation, and financing. The Commission says the strategy will complement the existing regulatory framework rather than replace it, the report added.
