European Commission charge Abengoa and Alcogroup with manipulating ethanol price benchmarks
In Belgium, Reuters reports that the European Commission’s competition watchdog has charged both Abengoa and Alcogroup with rigging ethanol benchmarks published by S&P Global Platts. The three-year investigation also included Sweden’s Lantmannen but they haven’t been charged although it said it was in settlement negotiations. Abengoa and Alcogroup are likely to face fines next year as a result of the charges. Alcogroup said it will contest the charges while Abengoa didn’t respond to requests for comment.
