EU court rejects NGOs claims that bioenergy isn’t climate friendly enough for sustainability label
In Belgium, Reuters reports General Court of the Court of Justice of the EU has held up the European Commission’s labeling criteria of bioenergy as sustainable, rejecting an appeal by NGOs who say that bioenergy isn’t climate-friendly enough to be able to make on label claims. The European Union’s taxonomy laws restrict what can be labeled as sustainable, and the judges refused to require the EC to align taxonomy laws with commitments required under the Paris climate agreements.
