EPA seen reassigning at least 50% of SREs to larger refiners
In Washington, Reuters reports the Trump administration’s Environmental Protection Agency is expected to reassign at least 50% of the Small Refinery Exemptions the agency granted last year to larger oil refiners, something that is expected to upset the oil industry. The ethanol industry has been calling for those exempted RINs to be reassigned in order to keep the bottom from falling out of the ethanol market, especially at a time with the farmbelt is suffering from the impact of Trump’s tarriff regime. The EPA set the 2026 and 2027 final RVO ruling to the White House on Wednesday as well, with the publication of those volumes expected before the end of March.
