Egypt signs MoU with China’s UEG to develop Mediterranean Green Hydrogen Hub
In the UK, Fuel Cells Works reported that Green Hydrogen Development Holding Limited, a subsidiary of United Energy Group (UEG), has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Abu Qir Fertilizers and Chemicals Company, Alexandria Fertilizers Company (Alexfert), and Orascom Construction SAE to explore the development of a Mediterranean Green Hydrogen Hub project in Alexandria.
The project aims to develop a large-scale natural gas alternative through green hydrogen production powered by renewable energy, integrated into existing ammonia infrastructure, according to the report.
Under the terms of the MoU, UEG and Orascom Construction will lead feasibility studies for 500 megawatts (MW) of renewable energy generation (wind and solar) and green hydrogen production capacity equivalent to 480 tons per day of green ammonia.
Abu Qir and Alexfert will evaluate the integration of green hydrogen into ammonia production processes while supporting access to local resources and infrastructure.
The report added that the project aligns with Egypt’s ambitions to become a hub for green fuels, including renewable fuels of non-biological origin (RFNBO).
