Diamond Green Diesel using beef tallow from cattle grazed on illegally deforested land
In Texas, Unearthed reports Diamond Green Diesel has been importing beef tallow from Brazil, and at least three of the slaughterhouses that Darling Ingredients owns and uses to supply the tallow for renewable diesel production at the DGD facility in Texas has bought cattle from farms that have illegally deforested the Amazon rainforest. The companies are not thought to have known about the illegal activities occuring upstream in the supply chain. Although Darling Ingredients says that it expects its suppliers to comply with its code of conduct, it is also working with them to attest to being deforestation free.
