Cuts to acreage, yield pull U.S. sorghum production lower
In Missouri, Brownfield reported that the 2026 U.S. sorghum production will be considerably smaller than 2025, according to figures from the USDA.
The USDA sees this year’s crop at 296.44 million bushels, a drop of 140.85 million on the year due to lower yield and acreage, both of which have been impacted by drought in parts of the Plains, according to the report.
This year’s yield is now pegged at 55.4 bushels per acre with planted area of 6.11 million acres and harvested area of 5.355 bushels per acre. Last year, production totaled 436.825 million bushels with an average yield of 72.6 bushels per acre on planted area of 6.64 million acres and harvested area of 6.02 million acres, the report added.
