Cristal Union says ethanol production at under 70% capacity despite pharmaceutical ethanol demand
In France, Reuters reports that even though demand for ethanol to produce hand sanitizers is soaring, Cristal Union says its ethanol production is still only running at two-thirds capacity. Demand for pharmaceutical ethanol is up 300% on the year thanks to COVID-19. Ethanol production at one of its facilities has switched to producing disinfectants but the company doesn’t plan to shut down one of its facilities completely as a result of falling ethanol demand. Cristal Union is the third-largest ethanol producer in Europe.
