COSCO names first 325,000-dwt methanol dual-fuel ore carrier
In China, COSCO Shipping named Far Seas Silk Road, the world’s first 325,000-deadweight-ton methanol dual-fuel ore carrier, in Yangzhou on Tuesday. Built by COSCO Shipping Heavy Industry and operated by COSCO Shipping Bulk, the vessel can run on fuel oil, methanol or methanol alone and travel up to 20,000 nautical miles on one methanol fueling.
The ship was jointly designed by COSCO Shipping Heavy Industry and the Shanghai Merchant Ship Design and Research Institute.
It carries nine domestically produced core systems, including a methanol dual-fuel main engine, boiler and shaft generator, and is equipped for autonomous navigation in open waters. The vessel also comes with a digital delivery system that links equipment and technical information, giving the operator a more unified record of the ship than traditional document based handover.
