Corn planting intention to reach 10.6 million hectare in Argentina, exchange says
In Argentina, Agrositio reported that corn planting intentions in Argentina are projected to reach 10.6 million hectares, some 200,000 hectares more than the initial estimate, reducing the expected year-on-year decline to 3.6%, according to data from the Rosario Board of Trade.
The report noted that the improvement is mainly due to a lower incidence of leafhoppers in northern Argentina and a better economic return on investment for this crop compared to other alternatives.
Under normal weather conditions, production could reach 67.5 million tons, while with favorable conditions associated with a strong El Niño event, it could approach 70.5 million tons, matching the record of the previous season, according to the report.
