Consortium formed to develop e-fuel corridor between Brazil and Belgium

June 10, 2026 |

In Denmark, the Global Maritime Forum announced on June 4 the formation of a consortium to establish a green shipping corridor between the Port of Açu in Brazil and the Port of Antwerp-Bruges in Belgium, carrying zero-carbon fuels on vessels powered by those same fuels.

The consortium, facilitated by the Global Maritime Forum and RMI, includes the two ports along with HIF Global, Fuella, NYK Line, Höegh Autoliners and Wallenius Wilhelmsen. It will assess infrastructure, vessels and business models to create a roadmap for transporting e-ammonia and e-methanol produced at Açu.

The effort builds on a November 2025 pre-feasibility study by RMI and the Global Maritime Forum, which found e-fuel from Açu could be cost competitive due to supportive Brazilian hydrogen policies, a largely renewable grid and low capital costs. A feasibility analysis is due by the end of the year.
