China unveils crop farming plan to boost grain capacity by 2030
In China, Xinhua reported that China will steadily enhance its comprehensive grain production capacity by 2030 and hold the bottom line of basic self-sufficiency in grains and absolute security in staple foods, according to the national crop farming development plan for the 15th Five-Year Plan period (2026-2030) released by the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs.
Under the plan, by 2030 China will consolidate and enhance the production capacity of soybeans, oilseeds, cotton and sugar crops to maintain a reasonable level of self-sufficiency.
The country’s grain output reached about 714.9 million tons in 2025, marking the second straight year with grain output above 700 million tons.
The plan also sets targeted measures for different crops and regions.
