Casablanca awards contract for major waste-to-energy plant
In Morocco, Hespress reported that a consortium overseeing Casablanca’s waste-to-energy project has awarded a construction contract to Lebanon-based engineering and construction company BUTEC, which will partner with Swiss company Kanadevia Inova to develop a plant capable of processing around 1.5 million tons of non-recyclable waste annually.
According to the report, the project is part of a 33.5-year concession agreement between the municipality of Casablanca and a consortium comprising Nareva, Kanadevia Inova and Itochu Corporation.
The plant will be built northwest of the Mediouna landfill in the Casablanca-Settat region and will convert waste into electricity, with an expected generation capacity of 126 megawatts, the report added.
