Cargill evaluates beef tallow for biodiesel in Brazil

June 17, 2026 |

In Brazil, Reuters reports Cargill is assessing the feasibility of using beef tallow as a biodiesel feedstock in Brazil as U.S. tariffs make exports of the animal fat less attractive. The company currently does not use tallow in its biodiesel operations but is studying its potential, aided by the fact that one of the biodiesel plants it acquired from Granol previously processed the feedstock. Soybean oil remains Brazil’s primary biodiesel raw material, while beef tallow ranks third. The review reflects efforts to develop new domestic markets as trade barriers reduce the appeal of exporting tallow to the United States.
