CAA advances sustainable aviation industry through waste material utilization

June 9, 2026 |

In Oman, Muscat Daily reported that Oman’s Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) continues to implement a comprehensive strategy aimed at enhancing environmental sustainability within the aviation sector.

The report noted that the CAA has prioritized the adoption of clean technologies and sustainable aviation fuel as core components of the National Aviation Strategy 2040. This strategy serves to modernize regulatory frameworks, ensure environmental compliance, and promote innovative solutions that align with global standards for a low-carbon economy, according to the report.

A central element of this initiative is the exploration of a domestic sustainable aviation fuel industry. Several companies in Oman are already exploring the production of sustainable aviation fuel using waste materials, organic resources, agricultural feedstocks, hydrogen, and captured carbon dioxide. To support this objective, the Authority established a national working group in 2024, involving government entities, airlines, research centers, and fuel manufacturers, according to the report.

This group is currently conducting studies to assess the viability and economic potential of developing a domestic supply chain for these sustainable fuels, ensuring readiness across national airports, the report added.
