Bureau of Indian Standards publishes specs for higher ethanol blends

May 19, 2026 |

In India, the Business Standard newspaper reports the Bureau of Indian Standards has published specifications for E22, E25, E27 and E30 fuel blends in support of the government’s move to try to boost ethanol consumption and offset exposure to fluctuating fossil fuel prices resulting from the war in Western Asia. The standards do not equate to a mandate, however. In order to move beyond the current E20 mandate would require significant infrastructure investments on the part of oil marketing companies.
