Brazilian researchers to begin testing B15 and B20 in May
In Brazil, Reuters reports researchers at Brazil’s Mauá Institute of Technology will begin testing higher biodiesel blends in diesel starting in May, focusing on B15 and B20 fuels. Brazil already mandates 15% biodiesel in diesel and 30% ethanol in gasoline, reflecting its strong biofuels sector based on soy and sugarcane. The initiative comes amid global energy disruptions linked to the U.S.-Israeli conflict with Iran, which has increased pressure to reduce reliance on fossil fuels and imports. Initial tests will include engine trials to assess the technical viability of raising the biodiesel blend to 20%.
