Brazil weather risks could boost U.S. corn demand
In Brazil, Brownfield Ag News reports weather disruptions in Brazil could tighten corn supplies and increase demand for U.S. exports, according to analyst Jeff Peterson of Heartland Farm Partners. Excessive rain in southern Brazil could delay first-crop corn planting, while drought in the north may delay soybean planting and subsequently the safrinha corn crop, which accounts for about 75% of Brazil’s corn production. Because Brazil uses much of its first corn crop for domestic ethanol production, reduced output could further limit exports. Production and export challenges in Europe could also create additional opportunities for U.S. corn.
