Brazil may harvest its largest first corn crop in 13 years
In Ukraine, UkrAgroConsult reported that Brazilian farmers are expanding corn acreage in the marketing year 2026/27 amid strong domestic demand, particularly from ethanol producers. According to Conab, total corn production in the country may rise to 148 mln tons, up 2.8% from the previous season.
The largest increase is expected in first-crop corn acreage, which may expand by 10.7% to 4.54 million hectares. Production is forecast at 32.1 million tons, potentially the highest level in 13 years, according to the report.
The area planted with second-crop corn, or safrinha, which accounts for the bulk of Brazil’s corn production, may increase by 3.7% to 18.48 million hectare. This could result in output of around 113.2 million tons.
