Brazil faces legal challenge over planned E32 gasoline blend
In Brazil, Reuters reports Brazil’s Federal Prosecution Service (MPF) has filed a lawsuit seeking to block the government’s plan to raise the mandatory ethanol blend in gasoline from 30% to 32% for 180 days, arguing the change lacks sufficient scientific validation and impact analysis. The temporary increase, approved by the National Energy Policy Council, is part of President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva’s strategy to boost domestic gasoline self-sufficiency. However, the Ministry of Mines and Energy maintains that E32 is technically safe and suitable for Brazil’s vehicle fleet and plans to implement the higher blend on August 1 as scheduled.
