Blaze raises $6.5 million for marine fuel retrofit technology

October 7, 2026 |

In the United States, Denver based Blaze Energy announced Oct. 6 that it raised $6.5 million to advance technology designed to allow existing marine engines to operate on alternative fuels, with a commercial vessel demonstration planned for 2027 in partnership with Lomar Shipping.

The seed financing round was led by Propeller Ventures and Catalyzer Ventures, with participation from four other investors.

Blaze’s Flex-Fuel Reformer System uses onboard equipment to convert fuels including ammonia, methanol and LNG into a hydrogen rich mixture that supports combustion in conventional engines without requiring engine replacement.

The company estimates its technology could enable alternative fuel adoption at approximately 20 times lower cost than replacing existing equipment.

Following land based marine engine trials in Norway, Blaze plans to demonstrate the system aboard a Lomar vessel in 2027, followed by a product launch for newbuild vessels in 2028.
