Bahia Bioenergy Atlas launched to support project development in the state

March 31, 2026 |

In Brazil, the state government of Bahia has launched The Bahia Bioenergy Atlas, the mapping and quantification tool to determine the technical potential for energy recovery from agricultural, urban, animal, and industrial waste from the sugarcane and pulp and paper sectors in the state.

Based on the conversion of biomass into energy, the study identifies opportunities for the generation of biogas, biomethane, hydrogen, and electricity, strengthening the diversification of Bahia’s energy matrix and the transition to a low-carbon emission system.

The results are presented in the form of georeferenced and interactive maps (Portuguese/English).

Based on information from official bodies and bibliographic references complemented by data collected during technical visits, the atlas brings together georeferenced maps and sectoral analyses that highlight the strategic role of bioenergy in the circular economy, in mitigating greenhouse gas emissions, and in regional development.
