Aternium selects Kiewit for engineering study on first hydrogen and heavy water production facility
In the UK, Fuel Cells Works reported that Delaware-based energy developer Aternium announced it has selected Kiewit Engineering Group Inc. to conduct a pre-front-end engineering and design (pre-FEED) study for the company’s first hydrogen and heavy water production facility.
The study represents an early phase in Aternium’s broader initiative to build approximately $1 billion in hydrogen and heavy water production infrastructure, which company leaders say could support both clean energy development and advanced manufacturing in the United States.
Andrew Cottone, founder and CEO of Aternium, said: “This project will deliver high-purity, clean hydrogen to the Mid-Atlantic while addressing a critical materials challenge for the United States by producing heavy water.”
Kiewit, one of North America’s largest engineering and construction organizations, will help develop the initial engineering framework for the project, including evaluating design options, project scope and costs, according to the report.
