Argentina’s soybean area, production to rise, FAS says

April 20, 2026 |

In Argentina, World Grain reported that Argentina’s soybean production is forecast at 49 million tons in 2026-27, up 1 million tons, on slightly higher area with yields returning to more typical levels following the current season’s strong performance, according to a report from the Foreign Agricultural Service (FAS) of the US Department of Agriculture.

Soybean planted area at 17.4 million hectares would be up from 16.5 million hectares in 2025-26 and driven by reduced corn acreage, the FAS said.

Soybean area in Argentina is well established and not expected to decline significantly regardless of prices or global demand, the FAS noted. Most arable land is already under cultivation, and annual fluctuations in soybean area primarily are driven by crop rotation decisions and relative profitability between soybeans and corn, according to the report.
