Argentina could become the world’s third largest exporter of sorghum, consultancy finds
In Argentina, Agroempresario reported that Argentine sorghum exports could reach 1.7 million tons during the 2026/27 season, according to projections by AZ-Group.
The outlook is based on a reduction in production in the United States and Australia, along with sustained demand from China, the world’s main buyer of the grain.
If the estimate is accurate, Argentina could become the world’s third-largest exporter of sorghum, behind the United States, with 4 million tons, and Australia, with 2 million. The projected volume for the country would exceed the 1.3 million tons exported during the year prior to the report.
The AZ-Group report estimates that Argentina’s sorghum supply will reach 3.4 million tons, combining production and existing stocks. This projection is based on a planted area of 750,000 hectares, stable compared to the previous season, and an estimated yield of 4.2 tons per hectare.
