Argentina approves a new genetically modified corn variety with insect protection and herbicide tolerance.
In Argentina, the Argentine Government said that the Secretariat of Agriculture, Livestock and Fisheries authorized, through Resolution 108/2026 , the commercialization of a new genetically modified corn that incorporates protection against certain coleopteran pest insects and tolerance to herbicides based on glufosinate ammonium.
The approval was granted after successfully completing the evaluations carried out by the National Advisory Commission on Agricultural Biotechnology (CONABIA), which determined that the event presents an agro-phenotypic behavior similar to that of its conventional counterpart and does not show new or increased risks to the agroecosystem.
Furthermore, the studies confirmed the absence of adverse effects on relevant non-target organisms and the safety of the expressed proteins. As part of the conditions for its commercialization, the company must implement the corresponding Insect Resistance Management Plan (IRMP), in accordance with current regulations.
