Antony Waste secures deal with JFE Engineering in India
In India, Deccan Chronicle reported that Antony Waste Handling Cell Limited has announced a strategic partnership with Japan-based JFE Engineering Corporation for the development of two Waste-to-Energy (WTE) plants in Andhra Pradesh.
The deal marks the first Japanese foreign direct investment into India’s Waste-to-Energy sector and signals growing global confidence in the country’s waste management potential, according to the report.
As part of the agreement, JFE Engineering will acquire a 25% equity stake in Antony Waste’s special purpose vehicles set up for the projects, while Antony Waste will retain a 75% stake. The investment is specifically directed towards the WTE projects being developed in Kadapa and Kurnool, reinforcing a project-level partnership model designed for long-term execution and value creation, according to the report.
Each of the two plants will process approximately 1,000 tons of municipal solid waste per day, with a Waste-to-Energy processing capacity of 750 tons per day per plant. Together, the facilities are expected to generate around 30 MW of power, with each plant contributing close to 15 MW, the report added.
