Aeroflot and Gazprom Neft agree to develop and use SAF in Russia
In Russia, Aeroflot and Gazprom Neft have agreed to develop cooperation in the production and application of sustainable aviation fuel (SAF, LCAF) in Russia. The company signed the agreement at the International Aviation Fuel Forum RuCORS in St. Petersburg, which brought together representatives of the aviation industry, authorities, the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) and the scientific community.
Cooperation will cover all Aeroflot Group airlines – Aeroflot, Russia and Victory. The project center is the development in Russia of the production of new generation aviation fuel with a reduced carbon footprint, as well as the creation of a system for its certification and accounting in accordance with the international requirements of ICAO.
For Aeroflot, participation in the project is a strategic preparation for a new stage of regulation of international transport. The companies will create a comprehensive solution that will allow Russian aviation to meet international environmental requirements and maintain competitiveness in foreign markets.
Within the framework of the agreement, the parties will jointly work out a resource-economic model for the production and application of sustainable fuel along the entire value chain – from raw materials to the end consumer – to assess the impact of new solutions on the industry and the cost of air transportation. The mechanisms of state support and sources of financing for the creation of industrial facilities for the production of low-carbon aviation fuel in Russia will also be worked out.
In addition, the companies plan to conduct pilot refueling with sustainable fuel in order to work out international reporting mechanisms and prepare Russian solutions for work on the global market.
