NATO increasingly supporting renewable energy
In Belgium, Politico reports NATO is increasingly supporting renewable and alternative energy sources as part of its long-term security strategy, emphasizing that reducing dependence on imported fossil fuels can strengthen military resilience and energy independence. A NATO-backed study highlighted the benefits of renewable-powered military camps, including greater energy efficiency and reduced fuel imports. The push comes as Europe faces renewed energy security concerns following conflict in Iran and disruptions to global oil supplies. However, NATO’s stance contrasts sharply with the Trump administration’s pro-fossil fuel policies. Several NATO members are already testing sustainable aviation fuels and other cleaner military energy technologies.
