Lactoferrin producer TurtleTree relocates to Netherlands, partners with NIZO
The NIZO collaboration will focus on developing TurtleTree’s lactoferrin, LF+, for women’s health applications.
Lactoferrin is a naturally occurring milk protein associated with immune function, iron regulation and gut health. TurtleTree produces the ingredient through precision fermentation, an approach intended to overcome the cost, supply and environmental challenges associated with conventional milk-derived production. Under the terms of the agreement, TurtleTree will access NIZO’s research team and food-grade pilot facilities.
The move to Ede also closely follows TurtleTree’s July partnership with Denmark-based biosolutions company Novonesis to scale, manufacture and commercialize LF+ for early life nutrition and selected dietary supplement applications.
TurtleTree’s Netherlands move is supported by regional development agency Oost NL and the Netherlands Foreign Investment Agency, according to reports from Protein Production Technology International.
