Tour de Bio: PISSEI cycling apparel taps LYCRA for biobased bike shorts

November 2, 2026 |

In Italy, performance fabric maker Brugnoli has partnered with LYCRA and Italian cycling apparel brand PISSEI to bring biobased textiles to high-performance cycling. The trio unveiled the PaceSetter  line, which includes 89% biobased shorts made from Fulgar’s EVO polyamide, which is produced from castor oil and corn, and renewable LYCRA elastane. Brugnoli’s Br4/E1 dyeing process added a further sustainability angle by reducing water and energy by 20%.

The cycling shorts offer high compression, comfort and freedom of movement, along with fast drying, breathability, odor control, resistance to heat and sun exposure, and UV50+ protection.

PISSEI CEO Filippo Quagli said the partnership aims to increase the biobased content of cycling apparel without compromising quality or performance. Br4/E1 fabric and Renewable LYCRA fiber combine compression, comfort and freedom of movement with a more conscious choice of raw materials, he said, serving both professional and recreational cyclists.
