Kia plans to build hydrogen Carnival at Gwangmyeong from 2029
In the UK, Fuel Cells Works reported that Korean company Kia has agreed with its trade union to produce a hydrogen fuel-cell version of the Carnival at Gwangmyeong Plant 1 near Seoul from 2029, making it the brand’s first hydrogen production vehicle.
The deal is part of a broader 2027–2029 production allocation agreement covering new EV and ICE models across Kia’s Korean factories.
The Carnival FCEV will use a next-generation hydrogen fuel-cell system. Kia is part of the Hyundai Motor Group and already works closely with Hyundai on fuel-cell research and development, but has not previously brought a hydrogen vehicle to commercial production, according to the report.
