Lufthansa Group renames its green fare to align with new European regulation

October 27, 2026 |

In Argentina, Aviacionline reported that Lufthansa Group’s Green Fare is being renamed Impact Fare.

The fare keeps its mechanics, can be booked in every class across the group’s airlines and has already carried more than five million passengers since its launch in 2023, according to the report.

According to the company, the change puts the focus on the passenger’s contribution to more sustainable aviation and responds to new regulatory requirements on environmental communication. Although the statement does not mention the rule, the rename comes after the Directive (EU) 2024/825, known as the directive on empowering consumers for the green transition, began to apply on September 27, banning climate neutrality claims for a product based on carbon offsets across the bloc, the report added.

That nuance shows in the description. When the fare was presented in February 2023, the group said the price already included offsetting the flight’s CO2 emissions. It now argues that the passenger supports additional use of sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) across the network and contributes to climate projects located outside the company’s value chain, which depending on the case aim to avoid or remove CO2.

For every booking, the group adds an additional volume of SAF to its operation within six months after the flight departs.
