China details methanol-fueled Yangtze cruise ship

In China, China Water Transport Network reported China Changjiang National Shipping Group’s Chongqing company detailed plans Sept. 28 for Changjiang No. 7, which it describes as the country’s first smart cruise ship powered solely by methanol. The 638-passenger vessel is under construction for delivery at the end of December 2026.

Wuhan Changjiang Ship Design Institute designed the 149.99-meter ship, and China Merchants Industry Holdings’ Haimen yard is building it. The vessel will have 230 cabins plus dining, observation, entertainment, business and wellness spaces.

The operator plans to use Changjiang No. 7 in the high-end Yangtze Three Gorges leisure market, with daytime passage through Qutang, Wu and Xiling gorges, cultural programming, local food and concierge service.
