Lithuania to turn storm-damaged timber into biomass energy
In Lithuania, Fordaq reports Lithuania plans to channel timber residues from the major August storm into bioenergy and other uses rather than allowing damaged wood to become waste. The storm affected more than 24,000 hectares of agricultural land and caused extensive damage to forests and infrastructure. The government has been assessing the available timber and options for processing it, including energy production. Lithuania’s approach could provide additional biomass feedstock while helping clear damaged forests and agricultural areas. The government canceled the nationwide emergency situation on September 16, although damage assessments and compensation applications remain ongoing.
