Croda opens biotechnology R&D hub in Liverpool
In the United Kingdom, specialty chemical maker Croda International has opened biotechnology research and development laboratories at Sci-Tech Daresbury, within the Liverpool City Region. The facility will serve as Croda’s global center for biotechnology research, one of the company’s most important platforms for future growth.
The cost of the facility was not disclosed. The new laboratories will support the development of next-generation ingredients and technologies for some of the world’s leading consumer and life sciences brands, helping bring scientific breakthroughs from the laboratory to commercial reality.
Croda flagged KeraBio™ K31, a biotechnology-derived keratin ingredient designed to help repair damaged hair, as an example of products being developed at Sci-Tech Daresbury.
“Biotechnology will play an increasingly important role in how we deliver sustainable innovation for our customers and create long-term value,” Croda CEO Steve Foots said at the site opening. “We had opportunities to locate this facility in several countries around the world but chose the UK because of the strength of its science base, talent and innovation ecosystem. At a time when much of the discussion around the European chemicals sector focuses on industrial challenges, Croda’s investment highlights the continued opportunities for innovative companies to compete globally through intellectual property, advanced science and R&D-led growth.”
