Indonesia develops bioethanol center in Lampung

September 16, 2026 |

In Indonesia, Antara news agency reports Indonesia is developing a bioethanol center in Lampung to strengthen energy security and support domestic renewable-fuel production. The initiative is intended to develop the country’s bioethanol ecosystem, including feedstock production, processing and supporting infrastructure. Lampung is particularly important because of its agricultural resources and established sugar industry, providing potential feedstock for ethanol production. The government views bioethanol as a way to reduce dependence on imported gasoline while creating new markets for agricultural commodities. The project forms part of Indonesia’s broader push to increase domestic biofuel use and diversify its energy supply.
