Braskem biobased polymer helps Deterra drug disposal pouch earn packaging awards
In the Netherlands, the Deterra® Drug Disposal Pouch from Accredo Packaging has won several packaging awards for its use of Braskem’s 50% or more I’m green™ biobased polymer.
Developed by Verde Technologies, the pouch is designed to deactivate unused medications, preventing drug diversion and mitigating the risk of pharmaceuticals leaching into groundwater and waterways. The partial use of I’m green™, which is derived from sugarcane, reduces the carbon footprint of the packaging material compared to equivalent fossil-based polyethylene, all while maintaining the technical performance required for pharmaceutical disposal applications.
The awards include honors for packaging excellence and sustainability from the Flexible Packaging Association and a technical packaging design award sponsored by AC Global.
