Biomass-based diesel RINs seen remaining strong

August 26, 2026 |

In Washington, RFD TV reports Valero Energy expects tight supplies of biomass-based diesel Renewable Identification Numbers could keep D4 RIN values elevated into 2027. The company estimates the existing credit bank could be depleted between late 2026 and mid-2027 because domestic biomass-based diesel production may fall short of federal obligations. Imports may not quickly close the gap because the previous blender tax credit has expired, while the Section 45Z clean-fuel credit favors U.S.-produced fuels. Stronger renewable diesel economics could therefore sustain demand for domestic soybean oil, animal fats and other eligible feedstocks.
