Bioenergética Aroeira using biomethane in trucks to transport sugar to port
In Brazil, Datagro reports Bioenergética Aroeira, in partnership with Gasgrid/ZEG Biogás, Aguetoni Transportes, and VLI Logística, presents the first low-carbon transport flow for sugar from Minas Gerais to the Port of Santos. The project uses biomethane produced from sugarcane industry waste to fuel trucks that transport sugar to the Uberaba Integrated Terminal, managed by VLI. From there, the cargo travels via the Ferrovia Centro-Atlântica railway to the Port of Santos, where it is exported.
The initiative connects different stages of production and distribution in a lower-emission logistics chain compared to conventional road routes fueled exclusively by diesel, demonstrating in practice how the integration of renewable energy, road transport, and rail can contribute to reducing emissions in the sector.
