Thailand faces potential ethanol glut as subsidies expire
In Thailand, the Bangkok Post reports Thailand’s tapioca and sugarcane farmer groups warn that the expiration of biofuel price subsidies on September 24 could create an ethanol surplus. They are urging the government to replace price support with a broader energy-transition strategy focused on creating value and developing new markets. Ethanol demand has stagnated or declined amid a weaker economy, despite periods of stronger E20 consumption. Without subsidies, a narrower price gap between E20 and gasoline could reduce consumer incentives to use biofuels, putting additional pressure on producers and agricultural feedstock markets.
