The 50 Hottest Companies in the Advanced Bioeconomy 2026

August 17, 2026 |

In Florida, the Daily Digest announced the 50 Hottest Companies in the Bioeconomy for 2026, as voted by the Digest’s readers and invited selectors. For the first time, EVERY took the #1 slot in the annual poll.

Avantium takes the #2 position, followed by LanzaTech at #3, Strategic Biofuels at #4 and Itaconix at #5. Arzeda (#6), Gevo (#7), Ecostrat (#8), Mango Materials (#9) and Aemetis (#10) complete this year’s top ten.

What stands out in the 2026 results is not simply who won, but how many different routes to bioeconomy leadership the voters recognized. The top ten is no longer easily described as a ranking of advanced-fuels companies, technology developers or biorefinery builders. It is a mixed field reflecting an industry whose center of gravity is spreading across technologies, products, business models and stages of commercialization.

The annual Hot 50 recognizes the companies that the bioeconomy community sees as generating the greatest heat—through innovation, commercialization, deployment and momentum. Based on data from the US Census, USDA and FAO, the Digest estimates there are 75,000 companies worldwide in the sector — accordingly, there Hot 50 represents the top 0.07% — the elite leadership in advancing the bioeconomy through technology, projects, and asset development.

“The interesting thing about this year’s Hot 50 is that there isn’t one definition of hot anymore,” said Digest editor and publisher Jim Lane. “The voters are seeing opportunity in very different places. Some companies are building, some are scaling, some are inventing, some are opening markets. What they share is momentum.”

The Daily Digest is the world’s most widely-ready bioeconomny daily, serving an audience of 6.4 million unique readers and followers.
