Brazilian biodiesel producers seeking export markets to diversify sales

August 12, 2026 |

In Brazil, Platts reports Brazilian biodiesel producers are increasingly pursuing export markets to diversify sales amid domestic uncertainty, including delays to planned blending-mandate increases and rising idle capacity. Overseas buyers may also offer premiums for lower-carbon, waste-based biodiesel, although producers face certification requirements and higher freight costs linked to geopolitical tensions. Brazil exported about 76,000 cubic meters of biodiesel from January through July 2026, more than 20% above the same period last year. Exports have also diversified geographically, reaching nine countries this year, while the Netherlands, Switzerland, and Belgium remain the leading destinations.
