India rules out ethanol-blended diesel over safety concerns
In India, the Press Trust of India reports the country has effectively ruled out wider use of ethanol-blended diesel after government testing found that ethanol sharply reduces diesel’s flash point, causing the fuel to fail required safety specifications. Public-sector oil marketing companies conducted evaluations with accredited laboratories and automobile manufacturers through their research centers. Petroleum and Natural Gas Minister of State Suresh Gopi said the technical issue would need to be resolved before ethanol-diesel blends could be considered for broader deployment, highlighting a key safety barrier to expanding ethanol beyond gasoline blending in India’s transport fuel market.
