Oman launches camelina trial for biofuels
In Oman, the Muscat Daily newspaper reports Oman’s Nama Water Services has launched a pilot project to grow camelina using recycled water to evaluate the crop’s potential for biofuel production, carbon sequestration, and sustainable agriculture. The project, developed with Hema Energy and supported by Sultan Qaboos University, the Environment Authority, and the Oman Net Zero Centre, will assess crop performance, irrigation efficiency, environmental impacts, and commercial viability under local conditions. Officials say the trial could support future biomass value chains while demonstrating how treated wastewater can reduce pressure on conventional water resources.
