Modern grind: eSUN unveils coffee-waste and bioplastic 3D printer filament
In China, 3D printer filament manufacturer eSUN has launched PLA-Coffee, a filament made by incorporating dehydrated used coffee grounds into the bioplastic polylactic acid. According to coffee, cocoa, and tea trade magazine Comunicaffe International, the filament is trade named PLA-Coffee.
In addition to a lower carbon footprint, PLA-Coffee also improves the visual quality of Fused Deposition Modeling-printed parts. The coffee particles scatter light, producing a matte surface that reduces glare and makes layer lines less noticeable. This allows the overall shape and surface details of the printed object to stand out more clearly.
PLA-Coffee also prints much like conventional PLA and remains compatible with most standard FDM 3D printers. It is available at eSUN’s online store.
