Keller wins Red Dot Design Award with biobased binder kitchen cabinets

In the Netherlands, Keller Kitchens has won the prestigious Red Dot Design Award for its enduura® elba kitchen cabinet system, which uses biobased chipboard made with a tannin-based binder that is derived from tree bark and produced without added formaldehyde. The surface layer also incorporates renewable resources, with melamine resin produced largely using Dutch biogas.

According to Keller, the material reduces CO₂ emissions by approximately 30% compared with conventional chipboard.

The Red Dot Design Award is an international design competition that recognizes outstanding product, brand, and concept design based on criteria including design quality, innovation, functionality, and usability. Established in Germany in 1955, the award is one of the most recognized design honors worldwide.

“Winning this award is a significant milestone for DKG and validates the direction we have taken in developing more sustainable kitchen solutions,” Connie Vis, Portfolio & Innovation Product Manager at DKG, Keller’s parent company, told Interior Design Magazine.  “Through years of investment in research and close collaboration with partners throughout the supply chain, we have proven that biobased materials can deliver the quality, aesthetics and scalability required for mainstream adoption.”
